Behavior Instruction Para educator
Type of position:
Hourly; 10-month. Hours may vary based on program needs.

Building Principals. Supervision:
None. Salary: $21.00/hr school year (effective July 1, 2026).
Position information:
Behavior Instruction Paraeducators will be assigned to Behavior Resource Rooms or to an Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD) student caseload.
Required:
High school diploma or GED. Highly qualified (HQ) status demonstrated through one of the following: > 60 semester college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Required para educator preparation exam (testing opportunity and support provided by the district). Experience or training in behavior intervention, de-escalation, or student support strategies. Ability to support students with behavioral, emotional, and academic needs in a school setting.
Preferred:
Specialized training in behavior management in a school setting. Experience working with students receiving behavioral supports. Bilingual Spanish or Somali.
The Behavior Instruction Para educator supports students with behavioral and instructional needs within general education environments. This role focuses on helping students remain engaged, regulated, and successful throughout the school day by providing behavioral support, de-escalation strategies, supervision, and instructional assistance.
Essential Duties• Assist in implementing educational and behavioral support plans developed by instructional staff.
• Support students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
• Respond to student behaviors in real time using proactive and supportive intervention strategies.
• Assist students in developing self-regulation, coping, and social interaction skills.
• Observe, monitor, and communicate student progress and behavioral concerns to staff.
• Reinforce classroom expectations, routines, and positive behaviors.
• Support implementation of accommodations and modifications as directed by staff.
• Assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when needed.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
• Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
Physical factors:
Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time; may be exposed to adverse weather. Frequent: walking, standing, sitting, hearing, talking, and seeing. Light work: exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible force constantly to move objects.
