Substitute Teacher

Purpose:

To manage student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school district and state.

Substitute Expectations and Responsibilities:

• Must possess effective communication skills - verbal and written
• General knowledge of technology
• Provide students with appropriate learning activities in the academic subject area
• Carry out the absent teacher's prepared lesson plans and any special duties assigned to the absent teacher (bus duty, hall duty, lunch/recess duty, etc.)
• Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
• Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies
• Performs extra duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices

Compensation for Substitute Teachers:

• Teacher Daily Rate
• Long Term Daily Rate
• Monday / Friday Rate
• Certified: $115.00 / $150.00 / $120.00
• Degreed: $100.00 / $110.00 / $105.00
• Non-Degreed*: $95.00 / $105.00 / $100.00
• Support Staff: $80.00 / $90.00 / $90.00
• * A minimum of 50 credited college hours
• ** Long term daily rate begins after the 10th consecutive day of the same assignment

Additional Information:

Substitute employees are subject to fingerprinting in accordance with Senate Bill 9. The fingerprinting agency charges approximately $50.00 for the appointment. If you are invited to become a substitute for MISD and you have not been fingerprinted with the Texas Education Agency F.A.C.T. Clearinghouse, MISD will email the information for this process.
