UMN NXT GEN Teach Apprenticeship
-Special Education Program Paraprofessional
District Wide 37.5 hours/week | Monday - Friday | Hourly Wage:
First Year $25.92 | Second Year $26.70 | + Benefits
-Participants are required to participate for two consecutive years of the program

Summary:
Duluth Public Schools is seeking an individual to assist the instructional staff, as well as specialists, in providing for the educational, physical, safety, and general life skills development of special needs students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The apprentice candidate must have successful admittance into the applicable degree program at University of Minnesota
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience as a teacher's assistant in a teaching environment in or outside a school system or related childcare work
- 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of college or a passing score on the Para Pro assessment

Qualifications:
- Ability to work cooperatively with children and adults
- Ability to effectively communicate with, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff and community
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to observe and record accurately
- Ability to understand and accurately correct student assignments
- Ability to meet federal/state guidelines (where appropriate) and/or to successfully complete specified in-service courses
- Demonstrated ability to work positively with students with disabilities and under the supervision of a special education teacher
Additional Information:
Special Education Program positions - can be assigned to work anywhere in the program at the school/site at the discretion of the principal/director. These positions are specific to the program, such as ASD III. They are not specific to a particular room or teacher. The para can be moved by the principal/director any time during the day or school year to work anywhere within the program.
Apprentice candidates are encourage to work two summers with the Extended School Year (ESY) program.
