Position: Music Teacher - Assistant Orchestra Director - High - School Year 2026-2027 (Anticipated Vacancies)

Music Teacher - Assistant Orchestra Director

Spring Branch Independent School District. Position reports to the Building Principal and Director, Performing and Fine Arts. This is a professional, exempt, probatory/term position with 188 instructional days. Salary is based on the District Compensation Plan.

Primary Purpose

Assist the Head Orchestra Director in all aspects of the total orchestra program, including instruction, administration, and program enhancement.

Qualifications / Skills Education / Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or out‑of‑state teaching certificate appropriate for the position
  • Certification meets all federal and/or state legal requirements for the position
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with adults and children
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
Major Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Strategies
  • Create and maintain a conducive learning environment, evaluating playing abilities and placing students appropriately in orchestras.
  • Organize and implement the instrument selection process for beginning orchestra students.
  • Understand contest rules and regulations, communicating them as needed.
  • Continuously improve instruction through self‑evaluation and adoption of new techniques.
  • Enhance the image of the orchestra department by exhibiting professionalism toward school personnel and the community.
  • Maintain responsibility for all assigned instruments and equipment.
  • Keep the Director of Performing Arts and Building Principal informed of all matters relating to the orchestra program.
Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits, conducting ongoing assessment through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Act as a positive role model for students and support the district mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create an environment conducive to learning, appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional resources.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Present information accurately and clearly using effective communication skills.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
  • Enhance the image of the orchestra department through professionalism toward school personnel and the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
