AVID Tutor
Hours: 10-30 hours per week (up to 4 days) Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday

Wage Information: Students: $15.00 per hour Adults: $20.00 per hour

PositionSummary
AVID Tutors provide targeted academic support to middle school and high school students enrolled in rigorous coursework. Through inquiry-based tutorials, relationship building, and academic coaching, tutors help students build critical thinking, organization, collaboration, confidence, belonging, and college and career readiness skills. Tutors support equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities while helping students strengthen academic habits and engagement.
Primary Job Functions- Facilitate AVID tutorials using inquiry-based strategies that support critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Provide targeted academic support for students enrolled in rigorous coursework.
- Support students in developing organization, collaboration, communication, reading, writing, and study skills aligned to AVID methodologies.
- Build positive relationships with students and serve as a positive role model.
- Support student engagement, confidence, belonging, and self-advocacy.
- Participate in collaborative groups, tutorials, and AVID classroom activities.
- Participate in required AVID tutor training and ongoing program support.
- Assist with grading, progress monitoring, data entry, and record keeping related to tutorials and student growth.
- Use district technology systems and digital tools to support communication and program implementation.
- Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment.
- Adhere to district, school, and AVID policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications (Education, License, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Required- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work positively with middle school and high school students.
- Ability to facilitate collaborative learning and student thinking.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with students.
- Ability to attend and complete AVID tutor training.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and positive role model qualities.
- Basic technology skills including email, Google tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
- Demonstrates appreciation for diversity and inclusive practices in all interactions.
- Current college student or post-secondary experience preferred.
- Experience with AVID, tutoring, mentoring, or working with secondary students preferred.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills valued.
