Puyallup School District is considering qualified applicants to sponsor in obtaining a Washington State Emergency Substitute Certificate. Qualified applicants must have the skills, abilities, and willingness to provide instructional teaching support to our district's schools/departments. Emergency Substitute Teachers provide coverage for absent teachers throughout the school district.
Position Hours/Days:
At-Will/On-call, based on the 2026-27 SY Calendar
Position Rate of Pay:
Full Day Rate (Greater than 3.75 hrs) = $201.57 Half Day Rate (Less than 3.75 hrs) = $100.78

What is the Difference between an Emergency Substitute Teacher and a Regular Substitute Teacher?
Emergency Substitute Teacher: is one who does not currently have a WA State Teaching certificate; these individuals are typically 'career-changers' looking to explore the teaching profession but have not completed a teaching program/received their teaching certificate.
Regular Substitute Teacher: is one who has completed a teacher preparation program and obtained their Washington State Teaching Certificate

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher from an accredited college or University (Verifiable per unofficial Transcripts) - Documentation MUST be uploaded
- Candidates completing their Student Teaching Placement with the Puyallup School District, with many Student Teaching hours completed, may be considered. Official transcripts with legend will be required upon hire.
- Experience working with children in an instructional capacity.
- Ability and desire to work on a constant basis minimum requirement 4 times a month

This Substitute position is screened and hired by the Substitute Services Office ~ Sub Services Selected Applicants will be contacted by Human Resources and will be required to complete the Substitute Onboarding Process, which includes;
Onboarding Paperwork Official College Transcripts (BA Minimum) sent directly from the college/university Substitute Online Orientation Substitute Onboarding Appointment (Includes scanning of fingerprints)
