Licensed Personnel, Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) Position

Forest Lake Area Schools is seeking qualified candidates to serve as a K-12 Math Instructional Coach and Special Projects Coordinator. This is a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) position reporting to the Director of Teaching & Learning. The position supports the district's focus on effective mathematics instruction by providing individual and group coaching and professional development. The role also collaborates with the Teaching & Learning team and principals to advance district and building initiatives, facilitate instructional review, and coordinate special projects.

Hours per day/FTE:
Part-time or up to 1.0 FTE

Salary Range: $47,806.00 - $86,346.00

Qualifications/Licensure

Licensure &

Education:

Current Minnesota license in Elementary Education, Mathematics, or a related area required. Master's degree in education or a related field preferred.

Scope

Ability to work across academic departments and grade levels (K-12).

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience with demonstrated student achievement results in mathematics.

Pedagogy & Content Knowledge

Thorough understanding of research-based math instruction, foundational number sense, and strategies for building conceptual understanding; experience with implementing Number Talks in a classroom setting.

Data Literacy

Demonstrated skill in using diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment data to inform instruction and improve student learning.

Leadership & Professional Development

Proven leadership and group facilitation skills, with the ability to foster collegiality, trust, and confidentiality among staff.

Communication & Collaboration

Excellent interpersonal, active listening, and written/oral communication skills. Highly self-directed and independent with strong initiative to research and plan next steps. Skilled in encouraging diverse perspectives.

Technology

Proficiency with instructional technology and integration, including data visualization dashboards.

Responsibilities

Instructional Coaching & Modeling:
Coach teachers in effective math practices through observation, modeling, co-teaching, mentoring, and collaborative planning.

Professional Development:
Plan and facilitate in-district professional development (large/small groups, PLCs, grade-level teams) on research-based math strategies, conceptual understanding (including Number Talks), and district-approved curricular resources.

Data Analysis & Assessment:
Collaborate with classroom teachers, school leaders, and district administration to analyze assessment data to set learning targets, inform instruction, align assessments, and drive interventions.

Curriculum & Instructional Alignment:
Plan and facilitate K-12 mathematics instructional review to align instruction, assessment, and instructional materials with state/national standards. Assist teachers in planning, sequencing, scaffolding, and modifying instruction.

Leadership & Trust-Building:
Partner with school Professional Development teams, principals, and district leaders to support high-quality math instruction while establishing relationships of trust and confidentiality with teaching staff.

Special Projects Leadership:
Coordinate and facilitate key district programming, including immersion, STEM, gifted/enrichment, Title I, new educator induction, technology integration, and equitable instructional practices.

Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned.
