Expected starting salary is $24.40 to $32.59. Full salary range is $24.40 to 40.77.

A combination of education and experience equivalent to one (1) year of experience in a related position. Valid driver’s license is required.

Individuals offered a position will be required to take a drug test

Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.

  • Successful completion of MPCA training programs within one (1) year of employment.
  • Successful completion of forklift operators training within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays.

Under supervision, performs work in the operation of the regional hazardous waste program, and recycling center according to county, state, and federal regulations, and guidelines. Collects and processes hazardous, problem, and recycling materials. Performs routine maintenance and repairs for the Hazardous Waste and Recycling Center facilities and equipment. Performs cleaning activities within the Hazardous Waste complex. Assists other waste abatement areas as needed.

  • Receives, presorts, processes, packages, and prepares shipments of problem and hazardous materials according to County, MPCA, and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). activities to reuse and recycle hazardous materials and products.
  • Maintains a used product reuse area.
  • Provides technical assistance and answers questions for the public.
  • Collects, processes, and transports hazardous waste at mobile collections in Olmsted and surrounding counties.
  • Performs cleaning and routine maintenance.
  • Performs emergency response procedures.
  • Assesses customers with waste loads and determines the price needed for disposal of waste. Processes payments from customers including cash, check, and credit card.
  • Operates mobile and stationary equipment to move and process waste and materials.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of a variety of potentially hazardous products, their chemical properties, and their environmental effects.
  • Knowledge of DOT and MPCA regulations for hazardous wastes.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for proper management and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Response Procedures.
  • Skill in the use of computers and technology including Microsoft based computer data management, record keeping, and report generation.
  • Skill in the use of basic business math.
  • Skill in safely operating stationary and mobile equipment.
  • Ability to physically move collected waste and materials to proper storage areas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to determine and perform reuse, recycle, treatment, and testing on potentially hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to successfully complete applicable training programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and provide good customer service.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety labels.
