Electrical Engineering Lead, Renewable Energy
Our client is a growing renewable energy organization expanding the scale and technical sophistication of its project portfolio. With a strong pipeline of upcoming work and continued investment in solar, energy storage, EV charging, and other distributed energy solutions, the company is looking for a licensed engineer who can become a key technical authority within the organization. - Take professional responsibility for electrical engineering deliverables and provide the required review and sealing of project documents.
- Evaluate electrical drawings, equipment selections, interconnection information, and supporting design details before projects move into construction.
- Guide electrical design decisions across a diverse portfolio of distributed energy installations, including solar PV and emerging energy technologies.
- Apply NEC requirements, engineering standards, utility expectations, and permitting criteria to produce safe and constructible solutions.
- Work closely with design personnel, project leaders, electricians, customers, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Provide engineering input on technical alternatives, constructability, project cost considerations, schedules, and field conditions.
- Assist with troubleshooting and technical problem solving when project teams encounter electrical challenges during construction or commissioning.
- Strengthen engineering processes, documentation quality, and design consistency as the organization's projects continue to grow in scale.
- Share technical expertise with engineering and design colleagues while helping build stronger internal capabilities.
- Active Minnesota Professional Engineer license with the authority and willingness to seal and stamp electrical engineering documents.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience involving electrical system design, project delivery, and construction oversight.
- NABCEP PV Associate certification or a higher NABCEP credential.
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code and practical electrical engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of design and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, GIS, and PVSyst.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with leadership, designers, electricians, customers, utilities, and regulatory agencies.
- Experience with commercial or industrial electrical systems is highly relevant. Familiarity with systems operating at 480V and below is valuable.
- Prior solar engineering experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience supporting photovoltaic system design or construction.
- Wisconsin and Iowa PE licensure is preferred. Candidates able to pursue additional state licenses through comity or reciprocity will also be considered.
