Position OverviewThe Diocese of Winona‑Rochester is seeking a mission‑driven Internal Auditor to support parishes, schools, cemeteries, and diocesan ministries through strong financial oversight, auditing, and training. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position works closely with the Parish Support Coordinator to promote sound financial practices, internal controls, and compliance with diocesan and governmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities Auditing & Compliance- Conduct onsite and desk audits of parishes, schools, cemeteries, ministries, and diocesan offices
- Develop and execute a risk‑based annual audit plan with a rotating review schedule
- Review of financial records, internal controls, cash handling, payroll, and policy compliance
- Identify risks related to fraud, inefficiencies, or noncompliance and recommend corrective actions
- Prepare audit reports and present findings to diocesan and parish leadership
- Follow up on audit recommendations and management responses
- Assist with investigations of financial irregularities
- Collaborate with external auditors as needed
- Provide training and guidance to parish and school bookkeepers and business managers
- Use audit visits as opportunities for hands‑on training and coaching
- Develop training and reference materials
- Assist with accounting, payroll, tax, and system questions
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in auditing, accounting, or finance
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Ability to travel up to 50% with occasional overnight stays
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards
This position has capiblity to be hybrid position.
