Undergraduate Engineer Internship is a full‑time position (Summer‑Fall 2026) on site in Rochester, Minnesota.
The primary purpose of this internship is to provide an engineering student with relevant engineering experience. One or more mentors will be assigned to provide instruction, guidance, and technical support. The intern will learn the procedures and processes of the Division of Engineering and the assigned work unit, and will receive selected engineering work assignments to reinforce the learning experience.
Assignments may include designing components, developing project strategies, gathering user needs, requirements and specifications, evaluating commercial components, prototyping, performing design verification and validation, troubleshooting, and participating in design reviews. All work is performed within the Division of Engineering Quality Management System and a multidisciplinary environment.
The Additive Manufacturing (AM) intern will be assigned to the AMF in the Mechanical Development Unit of the DOE. Responsibilities include CAD using Solid Works, prototype development with AM, verification testing, and documentation. Mandatory hands‑on work with metal and polymer AM technologies is required.
The candidate must have experience with 3D printing technologies using one or more feedstock types. Basic understanding of AM processes and material science is preferred.
QualificationsThe incumbent must:
- Be enrolled in an accredited engineering, management information systems, or other technology‑related degree program with at least four semesters completed.
- Maintain a GPA of 3.4 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
