Responsibilities

• Interpreting guidance on safety regulations, policies and procedures.
• Analyzing and/or resolving complex safety hazards across diverse operations.
• Coordinating specific actions to resolve conflicts and carry out safety program requirements.
• Managing and delivering safety education and training programs.
• Evaluating status of progress toward meeting SOH Program objectives.
• Promoting proactive safety programming and continuous improvement.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
• A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Specialized

Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes:
1) Providing advice to senior management and staff on risk assessment, accident prevention, and/or regulatory compliance;
2) Developing techniques to control and/or eliminate hazardous conditions;
3) Performing field surveys of construction and maintenance work sites for compliance with with safety standards; and
4) Presenting briefings and reports for presentations and/or meetings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement:
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
