ResponsibilitiesThe Histology Laboratory processes over 400,000 paraffin-embedded blocks and 1,500,000 slides per year. Specimens handled include surgical, autopsy, and research material. The laboratory contributes to accurate diagnosis and scientific knowledge by preparing microscope slides for pathologists and research investigators.
As a Histology Technician/Technologist you will:
- Accession specimens
- Process specimens
- Perform microtomy techniques
- Handle paraffin, frozen, plastic sections, and routine Hematoxylin & Eosin stains
- Perform special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization
- Assist in training of students and new employees
- Partner with team members to foster an inclusive work environment
Histology Technician (HT)
- Associate degree required.
- Minimum 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology (6 chemistry, 6 biology).
- Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) by start date.
Histotechnologist (HTL)
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Certified by ASCP by start date.
Additional qualifications:
- Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred. Graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program receive preference.
- Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on‑call, and weekend work assignments.
- Employees obtaining certification(s) after January 1, 2004 must demonstrate ongoing maintenance of certification.

- Transcripts (unofficial copy accepted) or NACES detailed international equivalency for foreign degrees. Must have a detailed equivalency evaluation, show US equivalent degree, evaluation from NACES or AICE.
- Internal candidates: past three performance appraisals; early release approval if less than the specified tenure.
The pay range for Histology Technician is $26.00 - $38.55 per hour. For Histotechnologist it is $31.79 - $47.71 per hour.

SchedulePart Time. Supplemental role scheduled as needed; some weekends and holidays possible.
