Mayo Clinic seeks a Cytotechnologist to join our collaborative cytology laboratory in Rochester, MN. In this role, you will perform high-quality screening and interpretation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, correlate findings with clinical data, and generate clear diagnostic reports. You will collaborate closely with pathologists and multidisciplinary teams, support quality assurance and regulatory compliance, and participate in research, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Perform cytologic screening and evaluation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to detect cellular abnormalities and malignancies
- Prepare, stain, and microscopically examine slides following established laboratory protocols and quality standards
- Correlate cytologic findings with clinical and laboratory data and document accurate, clear reports in the LISCollaborate with pathologists and multidisciplinary care teams to support timely diagnosis and patient management
- Participate in quality control, proficiency testing, and continuous process improvement initiatives
- Adhere to CAP, CLIA, and institutional guidelines to maintain regulatory compliance and laboratory accreditation
- Assist with training, mentoring, and competency assessment of students and new staff
- Contribute to research, validation, and implementation of new cytology methods and technologies
- Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and documentation to ensure safety and reliability
- Engage in continuing education to maintain certification and stay current with advances in cytopathology
Required Skills
- Cytologic screening and interpretation (gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens)
- Microscopy and slide preparation techniques
- Application of CAP and CLIA regulations in cytology
- Use of laboratory information systems (LIS) and digital pathology tools
- Quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation
- Specimen processing and staining (e.g., Pap, liquid-based cytology)
- Correlation of cytology with clinical and ancillary test data
- Infection control and laboratory safety practices
- Collaboration with pathologists and multidisciplinary teams
