Overview

As part of Smartest Energy US’s IT department, the Data & Integration Engineer plays a critical role in transforming raw operational and market data into actionable insights that drive business decisions across the energy value chain. This unique role sits at the intersection of business intelligence and cloud architecture. You will be responsible for not only analyzing data to drive business decisions but also building the Azure API integrations and Microsoft Fabric workflows that ensure our data ecosystem is automated, scalable, and reliable.

The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders in Trading, Risk, Retail, and Finance to design and deliver high‑quality data solutions, reports, and analytics. This includes data modeling, validation, and visualization to enhance data platforms and reporting tools. In

this role, you will be involved with the following:
  • Partner with business users to gather and translate analytical and reporting requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and reports to support Trading, Risk, Retail, and Finance operations.
  • Perform data validation and quality assurance to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Design and maintain Azure APIs (Functions, API Management) to facilitate data exchange between internal systems and third‑party vendors.
  • Identify manual bottlenecks and implement automated solutions using Power Automate, Azure Logic Apps, or Python scripts.
  • Analyze market and operational data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for business improvement.
  • Support integration of new data sources, including wholesale energy market data, customer systems, and financial systems.
  • Assist with system testing, troubleshooting, and documentation for data‑related initiatives.
  • Promote best practices for data management, security, and governance within the IT organization.
To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience as a Data Analyst, preferably in the energy, utilities, or commodities sectors.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
  • Hands‑on experience with Azure services (App Services, Key Vault, SQL Database).
  • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, and authentication protocols (OAuth2).
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing, ETL concepts, and cloud‑based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure Dev Ops) and automation via Python or Power Shell.
  • Familiarity with wholesale and retail electricity markets, market data feeds, or risk/settlement systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly to non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience of collaborating across technical and business teams in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
