YourRole and Responsibilities
As an Infrastructure Lab Technician Apprentice at IBM, you will apply your knowledge and experience using the latest tools and technologies to support IBM processors, storage, or other semiconductor hardware. Throughout the apprenticeship you will work closely with experienced engineers, technicians, and mentors in a production and/or development hardware raised‑floor environment to maintain all specific hardware related to the IBM Infrastructure Group.
You will learn day‑to‑day activities and responsibilities of a hardware raised‑floor environment on multiple different Infrastructure‑specific raised floors. This work is physically hands‑on with some lifting and physical dexterity requirements. You will also learn and be responsible for a variety of lab safety procedures relevant to the specific raised‑floor environment and for utilizing the hardware life‑cycle workload applications. You will be trained and expected to certify via testing in all specific responsibilities.

IBM Apprenticeship Program is an official registered apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Every graduate of the program receives a nationally recognized credential from the DOL. During the apprenticeship you will complete specific learning hours and on‑the‑job training to develop essential skills and competencies. Most apprentices complete their learning within 12 months. Upon graduation and receipt of the certificate, you will be eligible to apply to available full‑time roles at IBM.

- Some basic knowledge or experience in electrical engineering sciences (e.g., electrical safety, electron theory, AC/DC basics, wires and cables, computer electronics, electrical testing equipment)
As an apprentice, you will join other apprentices in a local cohort. You will learn about IBM and work through a personal skills roadmap with your managers and mentors, demonstrating new knowledge and competencies through hands‑on application with project teams.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Relocation assistance is not available.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise- Willingness to complete the requirements of the apprenticeship program
- High School Diploma or GED
- Some knowledge or experience with any of the following:
- Physical computer hardware installation
- Workstation problem and change tools for workload tracking, PC based
- Ability to team lift large hardware units
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced physically demanding environment
