Mayo Clinic is seeking a technical leader across the Epic Hospital application solutions to serve within the IT EHR Technology team. This highly visible and strategic role is responsible for leading the overall design of hospital and inpatient EHR applications by aligning clinical, operational, and technical requirements within the Epic ecosystem. Candidates will require extensive experience and multiple Epic Certifications along with a solid understanding of IT architecture and system integrations.
The technical leader is responsible for leading the cross‑application architecture and design of hospital and inpatient EHR solutions, with a primary focus on Epic platforms. The role partners closely with senior clinical, operational, and IT stakeholders to translate complex business and care delivery needs into scalable, integrated technical solutions that enhance patient care and operational efficiency. The Technical Leader ensures alignment with enterprise architecture principles, integration strategies, and governance standards while driving consistency and optimization across workflows and systems.
This individual provides architectural leadership in addressing complex Epic functionality and integration challenges, supports interoperability across platforms, and enables emerging enterprise initiatives, including AI‑enabled capabilities and digitally supported care models such as Hospital Unbound. Additionally, the role requires maintaining awareness of evolving technologies and effectively communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Proactively assumes a team leadership role to direct and coordinate the work of other staff. Assigns tasks to staff balancing workload, skill sets, technical knowledge, and task criticality. Serves as a consultant or tutor in many specific technical areas of expertise throughout the Department of Information Technology (IT). Serves on appropriate committees, acts as a resource to institutional committees, provides consultation, and facilitates institutional work groups.
Leads technical planning, participates in major technical decisions, develops proposals, gains approvals, works across departments, and is recognized beyond the division as a technical expert.
Facilitates system technical reviews within the institution to ensure appropriate technical architecture and design. Works independently on all projects and assignments, escalating as necessary, producing dependable results that consistently meet objectives. May be required to provide 24/7 on‑call support and interfaces routinely with colleagues across Mayo Group practices for virtual collaboration.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience, including 5 years of demonstrated technical experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience, OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience, including 5 years of demonstrated technical experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience.
