Medical Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Gastrointestinal Oncology Care Team, with a primary focus in colorectal cancer. This is an exciting opportunity to practice at the top of scope within a highly collaborative adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice. The NP or PA will care for adult patients with gastrointestinal malignancies, primarily supporting patients with colorectal cancers while also providing cross‑coverage across GI Oncology.
NPs and PAs see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients throughout the disease course, helping guide treatment plans in close collaboration with medical oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment‑related toxicities for patients receiving standard and research‑based cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies. The role also includes holistic care across all phases of illness, ordering curative‑intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long‑term treatment‑related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression, progression or recurrence, clinical trial participation, and end‑of‑life care.
The colorectal patient population offers a dynamic, rewarding opportunity to participate in complex multidisciplinary care coordination, working closely with colleagues in surgery, radiation oncology, and other specialties. In the metastatic patient population, Mayo Clinic is a leader in developing multidisciplinary care plans with curative‑intent treatment approaches. This work requires curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to learning cutting‑edge approaches to oncology care.
The ideal NP or PA candidate will bring a strong commitment to caring for challenging and medically complex patients, along with excellent communication, teamwork, clinical judgment, and assessment skills. This is meaningful, high‑impact work that requires diligence, resilience, and sustained engagement in a fast‑paced specialty practice.
