The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.

The ANA Nursing:
Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching;

and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the Visa Screen or equivalent certification.

Francis 3C-2B (FR3C-2B), Pediatrics (General Care)

This is a medical/surgical/oncology general care pediatrics unit located in Mayo Eugenio Litta Children’s Hospital. The infant/toddler and school-aged areas are on the third floor, and the teen area is on part of the second floor in the Francis building. Children and teens are admitted for a wide variety of reasons including trauma, acute illness, chronic illness, surgery, palliative care, cytotoxic medication administration, etc.

Nursing care is delivered using a family-centered approach, and all patient care rooms are private and include a parent sleep area. There is a Child Life Program which provides emotional support and preparation for the patients. An infant/toddler activity room, school-aged activity room, and a teen lounge are available for play and diversion. Nursing staff may choose to rotate to the Pediatric Infusion Therapy Center after attaining skills and experience related to care in this setting.
