The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
The RN provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication and mentoring skills are essential, as are participation on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of their role.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship; successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of the Visa Screen or equivalent certification.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA)
- At least one year of RN experience
- Entry‑level associate degree RNs hired after April 1, 2020 must provide evidence of a bachelor’s degree within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date
- Entry‑level associate degree RNs hired before April 1, 2020 must provide evidence of a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program as required by the time of hire
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working effectively in a team environment
- Computer skills required; experience with electronic medical record systems preferred
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on‑call
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable work conditions
- Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and critical thinking skills
- Current RN license in the applicable state
- BLS (Basic Life Support) valid for 90 days post start date (e.g., AHA/Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, or Red Cross CPR/AED)
- Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area
Pay range: $43.84 – $66.84 per hour. Mayo Clinic’s nursing compensation model rewards experience, education, and dedication, and is combined with a competitive tuition reimbursement program to help nurses grow professionally and maximize earning potential.
