Unit Overview:
The Level IV NICU provides advanced neonatal care in a modern, family-centered environment designed to support both infants and their families. We believe parents and caregivers are essential members of the care team and partner closely with them throughout their baby's hospitalization, fostering connection, learning, and confidence while delivering compassionate, evidence-based neonatal care.
Patient Care Type:Level IV NICU
Our Level IV NICU cares for a diverse population of newborns, from the most fragile premature infants to full-term babies with complex medical or surgical needs. Nurses on our unit provide specialized care while working alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team.
Patients may include infants who:
- Are born extremely premature or with very low birth weight
- Are preterm or late preterm requiring specialized PCU or ICU neonatal care
- Require advanced respiratory support, including high-frequency ventilation, conventional ventilation, BiPAP, CPAP, and oxygen therapy
- Need specialized nutritional support through breastfeeding, bottle feeding, enteral feedings, or parenteral nutrition
- Are recovering from surgery or receiving treatment for cardiac, neurologic, infectious, renal, or other medical conditions
Whether you are building foundational NICU skills or advancing your expertise in neonatal critical care, you'll be supported by a collaborative team dedicated to exceptional patient outcomes.
Neonatal Transport Team:
As a regional referral center, our NICU is supported by a specialized neonatal transport team comprised of specialty trained registered nurses and respiratory therapists. The team provides safe, timely transport of newborns requiring advanced neonatal care from Rochester Methodist Hospital and community hospitals throughout the region, ensuring seamless access to the expert services and specialized therapies available in our Level IV NICU.
Staffing Model:
