Position

Research Fellow – Structural and Cellular Biology

Postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Georges Mer in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Mayo Clinic. The laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms regulating chromatin structure and epigenetic processes in genome function and stability, using integrative approaches such as cryoEM/cryoET, NMR spectroscopy and X‑ray crystallography.

The postdoctoral fellow will have access to state‑of‑the‑art facility equipment including advanced instrumentation for cryoEM/cryoET (Glacios 2, Krios
5), NMR spectroscopy and X‑ray crystallography.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct experimental research on chromatin structure and epigenetic mechanisms.
  • Operate advanced cryoEM/cryoET and other instrumentation to generate structural data.
  • Maintain meticulous experimental record‑keeping and laboratory notebooks.
  • Write and publish scientific manuscripts in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with independent and team‑based research activities.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills, as evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, with attention to detail and meticulous experimental record‑keeping.
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) in a relevant field; candidates with no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship are preferred.
  • Recent Ph.D. graduate with expertise in cryoEM or cryoET; background in cell biology, particularly DNA damage repair, will also be considered.
  • Proof of English proficiency is required for foreign scholars.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $64,079.00 – $74,963.00 per year (education, experience and tenure may be considered).
