Clinical Research, Research Scientist
About the Job
The University of Minnesota is seeking a highly motivated Research Professional 1 to support translational research focused on developing novel immunotherapies for brain tumors, including cellular therapies and oncolytic virus platforms. The individual will contribute to both in vivo and in vitro studies, with increasing independence in experimental design, execution, and data analysis. This position offers opportunities to participate in high-impact translational research bridging preclinical studies and clinical applications.
This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.
- (40%) Perform laboratory experiments and procedures:
Execute cell culture, viral propagation, in vitro assays, and molecular biology techniques to support research projects. Collect and document experimental data. - (30%) Assist with animal studies:
Perform mouse handling, intracranial tumor implantation, oncolytic virus administration, and tissue processing for analysis. - (15%) Data collection, analysis, and reporting:
Compile and analyze data, prepare reports and figures, and contribute to lab meetings and project updates. - (10%) Lab maintenance and inventory:
Order supplies, maintain lab equipment, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and lab procedures. - (5%) Literature review and protocol development:
Stay updated on relevant scientific literature and assist in developing and optimizing experimental protocols.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS in biology, immunology, neuroscience, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years
- Experience with basic molecular and cellular biology techniques
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative research environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with mouse models (especially intracranial or tumor models)
- Experience with flow cytometry and immunological assays
- Experience in cancer immunology, virology, or cell therapy
- Prior experience working with viral vectors or oncolytic viruses
- Interest in translational or preclinical therapeutic development

Pay Range: $42,200 - $50,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
