Overview

SCHEELS offers extensive business and product training and opportunities in the sporting goods industry. The role supports customers with knowledge in outdoors and firearms and provides excellent service. Mentorship and professional development are a focus throughout the career.

Schedule and Compensation

Schedule: Must be flexible to work assigned schedule, Monday through Friday 5:00pm – 9:00pm and Saturday & Sunday 10:00am – 7:00pm. Schedule may include varied hours, evenings, and holidays; available a minimum of every other weekend. Average hours per week: 20.

Wage: Starting at $16.00/hr

All associates that process firearms must be over the age of 18.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately and efficiently process customer transactions through registers to itemize and total customer purchases
  • Collect payment in the form of cash, check or credit from customers and provide accurate change when needed, and issue the transaction receipt
  • Record daily transactions from cash register to balance drawer by counting money at the beginning and end of each shift
  • Maintain orderly appearance of personal workspace and surrounding areas
  • Assist in entering & processing NICS firearm background checks
  • Assist with gun room housekeeping
  • Ability to carry multiple gun boxes up & down stairs
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Demonstrate multitasking, organization, attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Publisher, Excel and Google Docs
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages
  • Promote the Scheels Visa Rewards card and clearly explain all benefits
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical equations
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Assist with all other duties as assigned
  • Ensure all paperwork for firearm sales including but not limited to Form 4473, licensing, and background checks are completed accurately and thoroughly

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); and/or 1–3 months of cashiering experience. All associates that process firearms must be over the age of 18.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation. Heavy work – exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Associates are expected to follow all safety procedures and minimize risk of injury.
