Overview
The Staff Data Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving data pipelines, orchestrating workflows, and creating analytics‑ready data models that support business reporting and decision making. This role ensures reliable data ingestion, transformation, and delivery while partnering with analytics, business intelligence, and IT. The engineer will interface with cross‑functional stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and orchestration workflows using Airflow and modern data stack technologies.
- Develop and optimize data ingestion processes from diverse sources to support analytics and business applications.
- Develop and maintain analytics engineering workflows using dbt, SQL, and Python to transform raw data into analytics‑ready models.
- Partner with analytics, BI, and IT teams to perform code reviews, establish best practices, and mentor junior engineers on data Dev Ops principles and tooling.
- Collaborate with analytics and BI teams to understand requirements and deliver robust data solutions.
- Monitor pipeline performance, data quality metrics, and system health while implementing proactive improvements.
- Manage data infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation for data applications within established team standards.
- Document technical specifications and architectural decisions to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or Dev Ops roles with demonstrated progression in technical complexity.
- Strong proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and application development.
- Expert‑level SQL skills and hands‑on experience with dbt for analytics engineering.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools, preferably Apache Airflow, for managing complex data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT patterns, and modern data stack technologies.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with a track record of troubleshooting complex data issues and implementing scalable solutions.
- Commitment to continuous learning, staying current with emerging data technologies, and sharing knowledge with the team.
