Job Summary

The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for Orbis Mongolia staff, consultants, visitors, equipment, and program materials in support of the organization's operations and program activities. The position is responsible for operating and maintaining Orbis vehicles, ensuring they are safe, clean, and roadworthy, while complying with all traffic laws and organizational policies. Working closely with the Country Director and program staff, the Driver supports field visits, mobile outreach activities, hospital-based trainings, meetings, workshops, and other operational requirements throughout Mongolia.

REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Driver reports to the Finance & Operations Manager and works closely with program staff, consultants, visitors, service providers, and other stakeholders to support the safe and efficient delivery of Orbis Mongolia's programs and operations.

Essential Job Functions / Key Areas Of Responsibility Transportation Services
  • Safely transport Orbis staff, consultants, visitors, partners, and authorized passengers to meetings, field visits, outreach activities, hospitals, and other locations.
  • Drive and operate the Orbis vehicle in accordance with traffic regulations, road safety requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Plan travel routes and coordinate with program staff to ensure safe and efficient transportation for field activities, considering weather, road conditions, and travel schedules.
  • Provide transportation support for mobile outreach activities, hospital-based trainings, workshops, meetings, and other program events.
Vehicle Maintenance & Safety
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after use to ensure the vehicle is safe and roadworthy.
  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean, safe, and presentable condition at all times.
  • Monitor fuel, oil, coolant, tire pressure, and other routine maintenance requirements.
  • Arrange routine servicing, repairs, inspections, and registration renewals, reporting maintenance issues promptly.
  • Maintain vehicle emergency equipment and ensure all required documents remain current.
  • Respond appropriately to vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or emergencies and promptly notify the designated supervisor.
Logistics Support
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting equipment, supplies, and materials required for program implementation.
  • Support the safe transportation and handling of project equipment during outreach activities.
  • Assist with basic logistical arrangements during field activities and events as required.
Administration & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, mileage records, fuel consumption records, and maintenance documentation.
  • Report accidents, vehicle damage, traffic violations, or mechanical issues immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with Orbis policies and local transport regulations.
  • Support administrative and operational tasks as assigned by the supervisor or designated personnel.
Other Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional conduct and provide courteous service to passengers and visitors.
  • Participate in relevant safety and driver training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent.
  • Valid B Category Mongolian driver's license with authorization to operate four-wheel drive vehicles.
  • Minimum of 3 years' professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, international organization, government agency, or corporate organization.
  • Experience driving in urban and rural environments, including long-distance travel and challenging road conditions.
  • Be familiar with various destinations including ministries, public hospitals, airport, hotels and rural provinces.
  • Clean driving record with a demonstrated commitment to road safety.
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent driving skills with a strong commitment to safe driving practices.
  • Good knowledge of Mongolian traffic laws, road safety regulations, and road networks.
  • Experience operating four-wheel drive vehicles and driving on rural or difficult terrain is highly desirable.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge and ability to identify mechanical issues requiring repair.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and manage changing travel schedules.
