Summary

Provides administrative and communication‑access support to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (D/HH) Program.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education/

    Experience:

    Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in administrative support, customer service, office management, or related field.
  • License/Certification:
    Valid driver's license or access to transportation.
  • Other Requirements:
    Must be able to pass a written test to verify fluency in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interpreter licensure preferred; candidates who have passed the New Hampshire Interpreter Screening at Level 6 or higher or possess equivalent certification recognized by the NH Interpreter Licensure Board are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Strong knowledge of Deaf culture, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and other relevant legislation and their implementation at the federal, state, and local levels.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates communication access services by arranging for sign language interpreters and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) for central office meetings, staff trainings, public forums, and meetings of the SRC, NHILB, and D/HH Advisory Committee.
  • Maintains interpreter records and resources by updating the NH Interpreter Directory, tracking licensure cycles and contact information, and ensuring the current directory is available on the website.
  • Supports interpreter licensure by contacting applicants about missing information or payments, preparing letters, certificates, and cards for approved interpreters, and sending test result notifications.
  • Administers NHICS screening logistics by coordinating with the screening coordinator, reserving rooms and equipment, and communicating results to applicants.
  • Monitors interpreter compensation eligibility by tracking fee increases in accordance with the current schedule and maintaining accurate experience records.
  • Responds to routine inquiries by composing and preparing correspondence, primarily via email, to address frequently asked questions, particularly regarding interpreter license verification.
  • Provides internal interpreting for agency meetings and trainings, including team interpreting when necessary.
  • Performs general administrative and technical support duties including taking meeting minutes, proofreading, disseminating materials to boards and committees, and assisting with MS Outlook, MS Teams, Zoom, and other platforms as needed.
