A full‑time post‑doctoral position in pavement infrastructure monitoring and assessment is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. The successful candidate will develop and code workflow processes and design experiments for multisensory data collection from air‑borne, unpiloted aerial systems and vehicular‑mounted sensor systems to determine pavement functional and structural conditions. This project is funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Cold Regions Research Engineering Lab (CRREL) and will initially last one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and continued funding.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • 70%:
    Develop workflow processes and code them to automate processing of multisensory data from air‑borne and vehicular‑mounted sensor systems to determine pavement functional and structural conditions.
  • 20%:
    Identify pavement field sites for multisensory data collection and design laboratory experiments to benchmark sensor performance.
  • 10%:
    Produce research products in the form of technical reports, presentations, and journal articles.
  • 10%:
    Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience

PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in geospatial data processing.
  • Python programming experience.
  • Knowledge of optical, lidar, and ground‑penetrating radar sensing systems.
  • General understanding of pavements and condition assessment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and be self‑motivated.
Other Requirements

Established publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with GIS, UAV data, and related data processing.

Location

Durham, New Hampshire.
