This part‑time vacancy does not exceed 29.5 hours per week and does not offer insurance benefits.
SUMMARYAssists supervisors in processing Criminal Record History Information (CHRI) requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Reviews applicant eligibility and related transactions for Criminal Records, Sex Offender Registry, and Permits and Licensing units.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTSEach additional year of approved formal education may substitute one year of required work experience, and vice versa.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education/ExperienceEquivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after high‑school completion in business administration, public administration, criminal justice, research, data reviewing, program support, administrative support, or customer service.
License/CertificationNone required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTSSelected candidates will undergo a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check.
- TRAINEE OPTION:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of 2+ years of relevant education and experience may be considered and hired in trainee status.
Must obtain State Police On‑Line Telecommunications System (SPOTS) certification within 90 days of hire.
RESPONSIBILITIESConduct advanced research into criminal history records and apply federal and state regulations to approve or deny requests for licenses, permits, and privileges. Identify aliases to ensure accurate records and provide reports to supervisors for denial decisions.
Capture and scan Ten Print cards into AFIS, perform quality control, and review Ten Print demographic data for completeness. Search Ten Print data to determine questionable identities and assist criminal justice agencies.
Assist the Sex Offender Registry with processing annual fees, resolving complex reciprocity tier scenarios, and supporting local police departments with non‑compliance investigations.
Communicate with Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) to provide inquiry results and guidance, and coordinate with FBI NICS and ATF regarding licensing issues.
Receive, review, and process authorized requests for criminal history information, ensuring compliance with laws and policies, collecting fees, and explaining statutes to requestors. Manage caseloads to meet required time frames and collaborate with coworkers for continuity.
Conduct background investigations for civilian employees within the Justice Information Bureau and determine eligibility.
Correspond with state, local, and federal agencies and courts to retrieve additional information such as court dockets, arrests, and dispositions, ensuring complete records.
Maintain relationships with law enforcement and federal agencies to ensure efficient communication. Develop understanding of state and federal laws and requirements.
Coordinate special projects and assist supervisors with developing training programs, manuals, and operational policies.
Coordinate with the Business Office on complex refund and over payment scenarios for all units.
