Overview

Chief Information Security Officer, Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire. The CISO will lead an enterprise-wide information security program protecting Dartmouth’s academic, research, and administrative operations. The CISO will report to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer and serve on the Information Technology and Consulting leadership team, with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer. The CISO will advise institutional leadership on risk posture, regulatory obligations, and acceptable risk thresholds.

They will oversee a team of IT security professionals, direct the College's cybersecurity strategy, and make critical decisions regarding risk assessments, security protocols, and responses to emerging threats. They will communicate cybersecurity priorities to risk stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, and serve as the key leader and voice of cybersecurity on campus.

Responsibilities
  • Lead an enterprise-wide information security program protecting Dartmouth’s academic, research, and administrative operations.
  • Report to the Vice President and CIO and participate on the IT leadership team, with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Advise institutional leadership on risk posture, regulatory obligations, and acceptable risk thresholds.
  • Oversee a team of IT security professionals and direct the College's cybersecurity strategy.
  • Make critical decisions regarding risk assessments, security protocols, and responses to emerging threats.
  • Articulate cybersecurity priorities to risk stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, as the principal leader and voice of cybersecurity on campus.
Qualifications
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to build consensus and align people and processes.
  • Experience collaborating with a research community to support goals and timelines, with clear, timely communication and the ability to remove obstacles to improve efficiency.
  • Advocate for a culture in which information security is a shared responsibility among all employees handling sensitive data.
  • Forward-looking, sustainable vision for cybersecurity initiatives; stay informed on industry trends and best practices.
  • Knowledge of leading digital platforms and technologies; apply metrics to drive timely evaluations and informed, values-based decisions.
  • Vigilance in protecting the College’s digital landscape against cybersecurity threats.
  • Proven leadership in a decentralized research university environment with experience in ethical data governance and AI security, cloud security, and zero-trust models.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with diverse audiences.
