SUMMARY

SYSC Registered Nurse II performs general or specialized nursing duties under the direction of the SYSC Nursing Coordinator in the care and treatment of SYSC residents. Utilizes nursing process, administers medication and medical treatment, and engages in comprehensive treatment planning with a multi-disciplinary team. Upholds the agency’s vision and mission through the Practice Model theories, beliefs, and principles in daily practice.

SYSC Registered Nurse III provides care and treatment to a variety of SYSC residents, including administration of medication, comprehensive medical treatment planning, and assistance with supervision and training of nursing staff. RN III utilizes the Nursing Process to manage resident’s behavior and assist in meeting immediate and long-term needs. Practices within the standards of the department, center, and regulatory agencies, upholding the vision and mission of the agency.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse II

    Education:

    Graduation from a recognized nursing program with affiliate or postgraduate courses and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, and psychiatric nursing.

    Experience:

    One year as a registered nurse in a comparable setting. License/Certification:
    Current RN license in New Hampshire.
  • Registered Nurse III

    Education:

    Graduation from a recognized nursing program with affiliate or postgraduate courses and clinical experience.

    Experience:

    Two years as a registered nurse in a similar or equivalent setting. License/Certification:
    Current RN license in New Hampshire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be certified by the American Nurses Association (or an organization recognized by the ANA) in a specialty consistent with the job accountabilities (e.g., Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse, Gerontological Nurse, Maternal and Child Health Nurse). All nurse certification requirements must be specified on the supplemental job description and approved by the Board of Nursing in cooperation with the Division of Personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES

REGISTERED NURSE II
  • Observes, records, and signs symptoms of SYSC residents’ physical, emotional, and mental condition.
  • Applies nursing process techniques in the care and treatment of residents with physical and/or emotional needs.
  • Interacts cooperatively with other health care providers and communicates information to the intra-departmental team.
  • Acts as a professional liaison/consultant on a 24‑hour basis to enhance milieu management.
  • Monitors treatment efficacy and medication side effects; reports directly to the SYSC Nursing Coordinator and physicians.
  • Performs medical procedures under physician direction, including specimen collection and treatment that exposes the employee to infectious diseases.
  • Admits, transfers, and discharges residents in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Coordinates medical information and follow‑up care with outside agencies verbally or in written form.
  • Teaches residents about medical testing and health issues relevant to their age.
  • Arranges appointments for medical testing and obtains needed appliances or equipment.
  • Participates in a multi‑disciplinary treatment team for acute and chronic disturbances at the center or other facilities.
  • Performs specialized nursing techniques, including psychotherapeutic and medical/surgical practices.
  • Participates in orientation and possible supervision of new nursing staff.
  • Coordinates and participates in medical rounds with physicians, PAs, dental clinics, and teen clinic; communicates information to the inter‑departmental team.
  • Participates in resident/family/guardian education to facilitate positive outcomes.
  • Communicates with supervisors regarding workplace safety issues.
  • Performs accountable duties in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
