We have immediate seasonal openings in our garden center and retail sales group. This position reports to the garden center manager. Studley's is Rochester's oldest flower shop, and there is a reason for that! Each job in our organization is important, and as a team we work together to satisfy our customers. Each plant we cultivate in our greenhouses is carefully selected to flourish in our customers' homes or gardens.
We consult industry experts and carefully research the best plants to ensure success. The way we all do our work and the overall presentation we illustrate to the public is what keeps our customers coming back and our employees inspired and engaged. The person hired will primarily work in the greenhouse/garden center, maintaining products by watering and transplanting plant material while proactively engaging and assisting customers. This job operates in an indoor and outdoor retail environment, so you will be working in various weather conditions. Must love to be outdoors in New England during spring and summer months!
Primary Duties- Plant and transplant greenhouse crops.
- Water, deadhead and maintain live inventory.
- Be knowledgeable about plants and their location in the greenhouses and garden center.
- Have experience using a variety of computer and technological devices such as tablets, smart phones, web-based POS systems, and electronic file sharing.
- Be aware of price changes and special sales.
- Accept any assignment on the general floor (any location or department).
- Move, replace, and improve the presentation of plants.
- Load products onto carts or into vehicles.
- Perform general maintenance (sweep, shovel, dust, and cleaning—including bathrooms).
- Unload delivery trucks promptly and carefully.
You are knowledgeable and interested in plants and related products. You have strong interpersonal skills, a high level of enthusiasm, self‑motivation, and empathy. You can work in a physically demanding role, effectively as part of a team, and engage customers enthusiastically in person. You have strong problem‑solving skills, the capacity for independent learning, and the ability to quickly adapt to new skills.
You are experienced with tablets, smart phones, web‑based POS systems, and electronic file sharing. You can prioritize and manage your time effectively and are willing and able to work in any weather condition, outdoors.
This is either a full‑time or part‑time seasonal position; the schedule requires Saturday and/or Sunday availability with flexibility, including holiday availability. Peak business periods will require extended workdays and work weeks. You should be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The position is very active, requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift.
