Assistant Controller – (Internal

We are looking for accounting professionals with nonprofit experience to support our client group. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid work model and the opportunity to collaborate with clients and our in‑house team.
In this client‑facing role, you will build relationships with professionals at all levels, manage accounting processes, and provide strategic financial advice.
Responsibilities- Project‑based accounting work for local nonprofit clients.
- Assist with recording and posting journal entries, month‑end close (including setup/review), accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare full accruals and monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close and financial reporting.
- Analyze the general ledger process, identify and resolve irregularities to ensure accurate financial statements.
- Communicate compliance and reporting requirements with client departments and provide quality service.
- Assist with financial statement reporting (cash flow, disclosures) and annual operating plan/budgets.
- Coordinate accounting efforts with external auditors, tax preparers, and staff supervision.
- Review operational, financial, and technological processes to assess business risk, internal controls, and overall effectiveness and efficiency.
- Help establish or upgrade accounting ledgers or systems for clients as needed.
Associate’s degree in Accounting required (Bachelor’s preferred). Minimum of 4+ years of accounting experience as an Accountant/Senior Accountant in a nonprofit or public accounting firm, with formal bank/account reconciliation and month‑close experience. Supervisory skills and strong accounting system experience are a plus. Strong communication, relationship‑building, and consulting skills, the ability to meet deadlines, initiative, multitasking, analytical skills, and business knowledge are required.
CPA or CMA is a plus.
Salary range: $70,000 - $92,000 annually (base pay only). Additional components include discretionary spot bonus incentives and other incentives based on performance.
