PositionSummary
The Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing timely financial reporting, overseeing bookkeeping and general ledger activities, managing accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, payment and check procedures, trust account management, tax coordination, and month‑end and year‑end close processes.
This position will maintain financial visibility into each line of business while providing leadership with an accurate consolidated view of the organization’s overall financial performance. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working both strategically and hands‑on within the accounting function.
Responsibilities- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and other financial reports for leadership.
- Maintain appropriate financial reporting and allocation of revenue and expenses across the company’s separate lines of business.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records, including general ledger and day‑to‑day bookkeeping activities.
- Manage bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure financial transactions are accurately categorized.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and other accounting entries as necessary.
- Manage month‑end and year‑end closing procedures.
- Manage customer invoicing and ensure invoices are accurate and issued according to established schedules and procedures.
- Monitor accounts receivable, outstanding balances, and collection activity.
- Oversee accounts payable and vendor payment processes.
- Review invoices and payment requests for accuracy, supporting documentation, and proper authorization.
- Manage check‑writing and other payment procedures while maintaining appropriate approval controls.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and supporting payment documentation.
- Oversee company trust accounts and maintain accurate records of deposits, disbursements, and balances.
- Perform regular trust account reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure funds held in trust are appropriately segregated from company operating funds.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, authorization controls, and audit trails for trust account transactions.
- Coordinate federal, state, and local tax requirements and filings with external accountants and tax professionals as appropriate.
- Manage applicable sales tax and other business tax filings and payments.
- Prepare financial records and supporting documentation for tax preparation, audits, reviews, and other compliance requirements.
- Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal financial controls.
- Establish and maintain appropriate controls for payments, checks, purchasing, reimbursements, trust accounts, and financial approvals.
