Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Environmental Safety Manager
This role manages all environmental programs and regulatory requirements for the University. It requires knowledge and experience in the broad program areas to be the subject matter expert for projects, issues, daily work tasks, and campus partners. It will require working relationships with campus partners including leadership and front line staff, regulators, and vendors. It requires problem solving and independent work.
The role is part of the EHS department, which collaborates on work processes to ensure a safe working, learning, and living environment at RIT.
- Administers Environmental Safety programs including developing program objectives, approving action plans, writing compliance policies, and serving as subject matter expert
- Coordinates with other departments and outside vendors to oversee proper hazardous waste management and transportation, and air and water permitting
- Participates in the development and implementation of emergency response plans
- Ensures health and safety department complies with all applicable environmental safety local, state, and federal regulations and codes
- Serves on committees and project teams to further the environmental safety of the RIT community
- Analyzes root causes of environmental safety issues, documents findings, and coordinates corrective actions
- Other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety laws, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
- Skill in the use of health and safety equipment
- Skill in public speaking and technical writing
- Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities
- Ability to influence new Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 7 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
Specialized Contributor Level 3 - A senior-level role requiring broad understanding of the profession or field of work. Independently leads diverse and often complex assignments, projects, or programs. May act as a mentor and guide less experienced staff.

Compensation: $73,000 - $92,000
In compliance with NYS's Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is listed above. Rochester Institute of Technology considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
