Position: Superintendent - Large Commercial Construction Projects
Location: City of Rochester

Overview

The Field Superintendent is responsible for providing complete project field leadership and direction for day‑to‑day operations of the assigned project(s), in partnership with the Project Manager and client facility team. The Field Superintendent also ensures project success by fully coordinating all vendors and subcontractors to deliver and install their scope of work in full accordance with the Contract Documents and Project Schedule.

Overall job site safety, logistics, cleanliness, and professionalism are responsibilities to the Field Superintendent.

Responsibilities
  • Project safety: primary leader responsible individually for maintaining a safe and secure work environment through implementing the Site‑Specific Safety Plan, leading project safety meetings, managing job site logistics and conditions, and acting as the point of contact for incidents.
  • Maintain, anticipate, and accurately report the Project Schedule. Perform updates as needed, monitor logical relationships, develop and implement recovery plans, and lead the project to support the overall schedule.
  • Coordinate all site construction activities to execute the project schedule and Construction Documents, managing constraints, overseeing the Site Quality Assurance Plan, supervising trade partners and Contract compliance, coordinating vendor deliveries, and ensuring compliance with the Site‑Specific Safety Plan.
  • Schedule and attend site inspections of work with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, third‑party inspectors, design professionals, local utilities, and/or clients.
  • Coordinate installation between trades and drive trade partner progress in accordance with the Project Schedule.
  • Provide key field leadership and planning for all trades, supporting and developing the construction schedule.
  • Daily project requirements: attend job site meetings, schedule deliveries, perform project site documentation, coordinate job progress, assist management with inspections, support vendor/sub‑invoice reviews, and status reporting.
  • Work with Inter‑Company field leadership to drive efficiencies and ensure best practices are followed for optimal outcomes.
  • Monitor and author Daily Reports for accuracy and compliance with Contracts and the Project Schedule.
  • Assist in processing, reviewing, and coordinating existing conditions related to submittals to ensure timely procurement of materials to the job site.
  • Implement the Project Quality Assurance plan, holding preparatory meetings, ensuring documents and installed conditions are in accordance with the plan and Contract Documents, and resolving deficiencies promptly.
  • Attend project update meetings with Project Management and Leadership to review and communicate overall project health and progress.
  • Measure project progress and report on it.
  • Engage with Energy Savings targets, working closely with M&V and Engineering teams to align construction progress and schedule with expected energy outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal legal requirements and secure all required permits; manage timely closeout of permits.
  • Assist the site team in documenting existing site conditions and interface with facility operators regarding site issues.
  • Work with the project team to ensure start‑up and commissioning activities are implemented in accordance with company and project requirements.
  • Promote and maintain the company culture by representing the team and company in the office and field to all stakeholders.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • 5–10 years of field supervisory experience on large ($25M+) commercial construction projects (higher education, healthcare, government).
  • Knowledge of MEP trades, specifically HVAC and electrical.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience with pull planning and Last Planner System.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software (Procore), scheduling software (Primavera), and Blue Beam document editor.
  • Team player.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast‑paced environment.
