Seeking Collaborative Artist to Illustrate Children’s Book About Shakespeare

Seeking illustrations for a children's book. Aimed at two-to-five-year-old readers, this project is intended to spark curiosity about a literary subject that will plague so many uninitiated middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults. By highlighting the exciting bits of Shakespeare’s work (swordfights, ghosts, clowns, faeries!), we hope to create a positive association in future artists and audience members alike. The universality of Shakespeare’s stories is evident with the proper care, and we are looking for an illustrator who can evoke that magic and wonder, as well as capture familiar, simple, homebound scenes.

The book has been drafted, a publisher is secured, and we are primed for a crowd-funding campaign. All that remains are the illustrations. An ideal collaboration would involve a series of (paid) commissions to launch fundraising, followed by the rest of the illustrations delivered on a rolling basis as crowdfunding commences.

This is a passion project between two authors: a father and a writer, both of whom have adored Shakespeare for decades. We are hoping to find someone flexible, curious, and enthusiastic, and are open to professional and amateur artists alike. No knowledge or love of Shakespeare is required, but would be helpful. Ideal timeline is to have initial illustrations drafted in early March to ideally have a finished product by the end of the Summer.
