Base Pay Range$54,425.00/yr - $65,548.00/yr
Duties DescriptionThis dental hygienist will work in the Article 16 Dental Clinic (MDC, Tymeson, Doty, and Parkside clinic locations) to help support the needs of approximately 500 individuals across a 10-county area. The Dental Hygienist will perform oral examinations, complete oral prophylactic work, and assist the dentist (in the absence of a dental assistant) in the Article 16 dental office and satellite clinics.
The Dental Hygienist will perform all the allowable services in accordance with Section 6606 of the New York State Education Law, under the direct supervision of the licensed dentist. Computer skills and travel to satellite locations is necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Remove calcareous deposits, accretions and stains from the exposed surfaces of the teeth which begin at the epithelial attachment and applying topical agents indicated for a complete dental prophylaxis
- Remove cement
- Place or remove rubber dam
- Remove sutures
- Place matrix band
- Provide patient education
- Apply topical medication
- Place and expose diagnostic dental x-ray films
- Perform topical fluoride applications, and topical anesthetic applications
- Polishing teeth
- Take medical history, charting, caries, taking impressions for study casts, and placing and removing temporary restoration, etc.
- Complete office duties such as filing, pulling patient charts, and correspondence with patients and treatment teams via email and phone calls
- Work with other dental staff to ensure completeness while ordering supplies and maintaining equipment
- Participate in agency‐wide trainings and committees to promote good oral health
- Travel to other clinic locations as needed based on caseload
- Possession of a license and current registration to practice dental hygiene in New York State
- Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; or be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non‑competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status.
