Company Description VHI Cabinet Specialties is a Rochester, NY–based custom cabinetry manufacturer serving homeowners, designers, and contractors throughout the Greater Rochester area. The team builds cabinetry from scratch in its local workshop, providing fully custom kitchens, bathroom vanities, built-ins, and storage solutions without a middleman. Customers benefit from in-house design support, including 3D renderings and detailed floor plans, as well as flexible material and finish options across multiple wood species and styles.
VHI offers solutions for a range of budgets, from curated pre-built cabinetry to fully tailored designs, all produced with a quality-first process and close collaboration with project partners. Clients are encouraged to tour the workshop to understand the craftsmanship and care behind each finished product.
Role Description The Sales / Kitchen Designer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Rochester, NY. This role involves meeting with homeowners, designers, and contractors to understand project goals, budgets, and timelines, and to translate those needs into practical kitchen and cabinetry designs. The Sales / Kitchen Designer will develop floor plans and 3D renderings, recommend materials and finishes, and prepare detailed proposals and quotes.
Day-to-day responsibilities include managing client communications, coordinating with the production team to ensure accurate specifications, and following projects from initial consultation through final approval. The role also includes maintaining product and design knowledge, supporting showroom and workshop visits, and contributing to a positive, collaborative customer experience.
Qualifications
- Strong design and space-planning abilities, including experience creating kitchen layouts, floor plans, and basic 3D renderings.
- Sales and customer service skills, with the ability to consult with clients, understand their needs, and guide them through options and decisions.
- Knowledge of cabinetry, millwork, materials, finishes, and hardware, or a strong interest in learning these product details.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills for accurate measurements, specifications, quotes, and project documentation.
- Effective communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication and the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
- Comfort working on-site in a workshop and showroom environment, including occasional client tours and hands-on product demonstrations.
- Proficiency with basic computer tools; experience with design or CAD software is a plus.
- Previous experience in kitchen design, interior design, cabinetry sales, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work full time in Rochester, NY, and reliably manage a schedule that may include occasional evenings or Saturdays based on client needs.
