Overview
The Executive Director of Bilingual Education and World Languages is a critical member of an integrated instructional team in the Division of Teaching and Learning. They exercise significant discretion and independent decision-making authority and advise the Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning regarding policies and protocols developed to ensure that all schools are addressing the diverse educational needs of all students.
The Executive Director provides intellectual and administrative leadership by catalyzing, leading, and participating in collaborative, interdisciplinary research and action-oriented results to support student achievement. They work closely with Principals to ensure school success in meeting cumulative performance targets and to foster high levels of Principal satisfaction with services provided. They collaborate with Central Office departments to identify and select highly qualified teachers, collect and analyze data for instructional improvements, seek external funding, and meet all Federal, State, and funding source reporting requirements.
They lead the development and implementation of District standards, instructional initiatives, curriculum, and professional development for English Language Learners (ELLs).
Minimum Salary - $105,000 per year
Maximum Salary - #135,000 per year
- Plans, directs, and supervises the activities of English Language Learners by district and state policies and applicable laws.
- Provides K-12 technical assistance for English Language Learners in ENL and Bilingual Programming.
- Convenes and facilitates RCSD subject area council of representative teachers and administrators.
- Unifies diverse views of students, staff, parents, and community members into a cohesive vision for instruction in their assigned areas of responsibility.
- Maintains communication with local, state, and national English Language Learners councils on professional issues to support continuous assessment of course offerings and knowledge of national trends to disseminate to appropriate personnel.
- Works closely with teachers and building administrators to improve instruction.
- Accepts major responsibility and provides leadership for the long-range planning of World Language curricula and assessments.
- Works with the Office of Parent Engagement to increase parent engagement and understanding of English Language Learning while aligning support services for students.
- Works in conjunction with Human Capital Initiatives in the recruitment, selection, and retention of ENL, World Language, and Bilingual teachers.
- Participates in professional development to assure that the district is continually abreast of new and promising practices.
- Leads collaborative initiatives in support of developing professional learning communities within and beyond the context of schools and the District.
- Provides professional development and guidance to principals in collaboration with the Directors of Special Education and Intervention on service delivery practices, and instructional best practices for students with special needs (including Special Education students, Gifted Learners, and at-risk student populations) to improve student achievement and accelerate student learning.
- In collaboration with the Director of Professional Learning, assists schools in developing professional learning plans that incorporate English Language Learners and reflect the philosophy of
1) collective inquiry into best practice and schools current reality;
2) action orientation;
3) commitment to continuous improvement;
4) and results in orientation. - Designs, plans, and implements professional development workshops for teachers.
- Develops, implements, monitors, reviews, and coordinates English Language Learners curricula in collaboration with Directors from the Division of Teaching & Learning for grades K-12, including textbook adoptions, in alignment with resources and assessments.
