St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students each year. Job Responsibilities
The Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences serves as a key academic leader dedicated to advancing an innovative, inclusive, and student‑centered learning environment. Working in close partnership with the Dean, department chairs, faculty and students, the Associate dean plays a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the strategic plan for the university with a special focus on student success, organizational innovation and community engagement.

Strategic Leadership in Student belonging
The Associate Dean leads initiatives that strengthen inclusion across the School of Arts and Sciences, ensuring that the Basilian values of social justice and belonging are embedded throughout the curriculum. This work includes championing inclusive pedagogies, supporting faculty development, and fostering a learning environment where all students can thrive.
Curricular Innovation and Academic Excellence
A central responsibility of the Associate Dean is directing and overseeing curricular activities that elevate the academic mission of the School. This includes:
* Advancing instructional excellence by supporting faculty and staff through professional development, sharing research‑based best practices in curriculum design, and promoting high‑impact teaching and learning strategies.
* Ensuring alignment with University policies and processes as articulated in the Catalog, and guiding faculty in upholding these standards.
* Collaborating on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the School's curriculum, working closely with the Assistant Dean of Assessment, and School‑wide committees focused on curriculum, instruction, and academic planning.
* Assisting department chairs and faculty in designing innovative instructional approaches and integrating emerging pedagogies that enhance student learning.
* Assisting department chairs and faculty in designing new curriculum and programs ensuring that students are well-prepared for rich personal and professional lives.
Support for Scholarship and Faculty Development
The Associate Dean fosters a vibrant culture of scholarly engagement by supporting faculty research, creative activity, and professional growth. This includes partnering with faculty and the Office of Sponsored Research to strengthen grant planning and expand opportunities for scholarly advancement.
Student Success, Advising, and Retention
With a deep commitment to student success, the Associate Dean collaborates across the School to strengthen advising structures, improve retention, and support timely degree completion. Key efforts include:
* Developing clear degree pathways, annual course schedules, and curriculum maps that help students navigate their academic journeys with confidence.
* Partnering with advising initiatives through CCAP to ensure coordinated, student‑centered support.
