The K-12 Special Education teacher will create a welcoming and inclusive class environment favorable to learning and personal growth for all students in alignment with the district's mission and core commitments.
IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY Curriculum & Instruction- Plan and implement instruction based upon district standards and best instructional practices aligned to the K-12 instructional model.
- Implement the instructional program, including practices to support a multi-tiered system of support.
- Establish positive relationships and rapport with students, parents, and staff members.
- Understand and implement culturally responsive curriculum which is standards based.
- Serve as Case Manager for their case load of students, by ensuring that students Individualized Educational Plans are implemented.
- Utilize formative and summative assessment to monitor and differentiate instructional practice based upon learners.
- Analyze class building, district, and state assessment data to inform curriculum implementation and instructional decisions.
- Document student progress, learning, and outcomes; address specific educational needs of students; and provide feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress.
- Create a safe and positive learning environment to support all students.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education, coursework, and professional growth activities.
- Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to be productive citizens.
- Continually support student growth academically, socially and emotionally.
- Collaborate with colleagues, district leadership and families to create a classroom culture that supports high expectations for student learning.
- Provide regular and effective communication with families to support home/school connections.
- Abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement.
- Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse, harassment, intimidation, bullying, fights, substance abuse etc.
- Observe strict confidentiality regarding student data and information.
- Valid teaching certificate for the State of New York with required endorsement in area of assignment
- Prior experience in the school setting preferred, but not required.
- Successful New York State fingerprint clearance
- The K-12 Special Education teacher is directly responsible to the building principal and district leadership.
