Job Description:

Function of Position:

Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Paraprofessional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.

Examples of

Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

* Foster the development of independent, intentional learners

* Help students understand and use effective learning strategies

* Provide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings

* Psychology

* Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty

* Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters

* Collaborate with faculty on providing workshops and in setting tutoring expectations

* Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook

* Promote critical thinking and problem solving

* Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content

* Promote student understanding of Psychology as a science

Secondary Functions:

* Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring

* Assisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

* Associates or working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology

* Experience working with diverse college populations

* Technology savvy

Preferred Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Psychology

* Two years of tutoring experience

Additional Information:

Pay Rate:
Associates Degree - $15.50/hr.

Job Type: Part Time

Hours:

10-20 Hours per week
