Position Overview
12‑Month Position
Salary Range: $53,500 - $64,000 per year
Pay within this range is based on experience and education.

Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity of others.
- Assess student needs and environmental barriers and identify modifications and adaptations to best deliver instructional activities that actively engage students in meaningful learning experiences.
- Assist team members in identifying appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and environmental factors that will maximize a student’s visual functioning or adaptive functioning.
- Prepare paperwork as appropriate for CSEs, CPSEs, and other meetings on students with visual impairments.
- Utilize appropriate educational techniques and methods suited to students’ individual needs.
- Select, develop and implement appropriate materials and equipment for therapy and classroom use.
- Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team and produce written reports.
- Interpret eye/medical reports and share information with team members.
- Register eligible students with the New York State Resource Center for the Visually Impaired.
- Assist team members in obtaining/accessing resources relative to visual impairment, including appropriate curricula and assessments, current research and journal articles, and commercially produced materials.
- Record, report, and interpret progress of students, making necessary program modifications and completing progress notes on assigned students.
- Work and communicate effectively with parents.
- Create and maintain a positive and safe environment, addressing the health, medical, and safety concerns of the students.
- Provide training to team members and classroom staff to assist them in carrying out specific techniques with individual students.
- Act as a resource to parents and professionals regarding services and organizations that provide services to individuals with visual impairments.
- Participate in various teacher‑related meetings and in‑service sessions deemed necessary by the Superintendent or Principal.
- Manage student behavior using proactive, positive interventions and implement appropriate behavioral management plans and crisis intervention strategies, as appropriate, ensuring due process rights of students.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and certification from the NY Department of Education as a Teacher of the Blind or Visually Impaired. Additional certification in Orientation & Mobility preferred, but not required.
