Not Your Average Teacher Assistant Join The Norman Howard School team as a Teaching Assistant! TA’s are integral to our educational teams and work closely with Special Education teachers to implement lessons and provide personalized support to classes of 12 or fewer students.
The Norman Howard School is a welcoming community of students, families, and educators who support and celebrate what makes each child unique, while providing educational experiences tailored to meet every students’ needs. 5th-12th grade students from over 30 school districts experience a rich and diverse school culture, learn strategies for managing their special learning needs, and graduate alongside their public school peers.
The Norman Howard School was established in 1980 by parents and community professionals, and is a nonprofit, NYSED-approved nonpublic 12:1:1, academic, special education program. The school promotes the understanding of diverse learning needs and serves as a resource for families and professionals.

Purpose:
The Norman Howard School (NHS) considers Teaching Assistants to be integral members of its instructional team. Teaching Assistants take an active role in the classroom, working with students with diverse learning needs.
Job Responsibilities:
Support lessons developed by the classroom teacher and assist in supervising classroom activities.
Adhere to school policies and procedures regarding student behavior and expectations within a PBIS framework.
Function as an integral member of a grade level educational team.
Fulfill supervisory duties, as assigned.
Participate in school activities and events, in accordance with school policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Implement lessons as directed by teacher.
Provide functional behavioral thinking and multi-levels of behavior support.
Demonstrate strong organizational management skills.
Possess strong verbal skills.
