Job Summary:

The Children's Ministry Director plays a key role in creating a vibrant, welcoming environment for children from six weeks through fourth grade. At Crosstown, we believe it's never too early for children to begin discovering who God created them to be. The Director is responsible for overseeing and developing engaging programs where kids can learn about Jesus in ways that are relevant to their age and stage of life.

This role requires a passion for working with children, equipping volunteers, and partnering with families to foster an environment where kids can grow in their faith. As an essential part of our team, the Children's Ministry Director helps ensure our church remains a place that families love to attend, and where children are spiritually nurtured.

Areas of Responsibility:

Planning and Preparing

  • Implement Kidzone curriculum for Sunday morning where kids can learn about Jesus on their level.
  • Help finalize an annual budget for the children's ministry.
  • Maintain regular communication with your campus pastor.

Sunday Morning

  • Ensure all classrooms are prepared and ready to go for Sunday morning.
  • Lead Sunday morning Kidzone, including check-in, programming, crafts/music, and overseeing volunteers.
  • Be available to teach on Sunday morning during Kidzone as needed.
  • Restock craft supplies in the Kidzone area and nursery supplies when necessary (i.e. wipes, diapers, etc.).
  • Ensure that volunteers are trained and follow safety procedures as outlined in our children and youth ministry volunteer training manual.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Coordinate with volunteers to ensure classrooms and the nursery are fully staffed.
  • Oversee the volunteer schedule for both Nursery and Kidzone ministries.
  • Ensure all volunteers are approved and have completed background checks and training.
  • Identify and develop a team of leaders to help with the week-to-week needs of the ministry.

Support and Communication

  • Provide support, resources, and/or encouragement for parents as they nurture their children's spiritual growth.
  • Communicate upcoming events, programs, and opportunities to parents through newsletters, emails, or other forms of communication.

Safety and Compliance

  • Regularly review and update safety policies and procedures to ensure the environment remains secure for children, volunteers, and families.
  • Maintain appropriate records of volunteer background checks, volunteer training certifications, and any required child protection training.

Event Planning and Special Programs

  • Assist in coordinating special events for children, such as Vacation Bible School, holiday parties, or family-friendly outreach projects.
Requirements:
  • Agree with Crosstown's vision, values, and statement of beliefs.
  • Demonstrate a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Display appropriate and positive interactions with children.
  • Complete background checks and adhere to the volunteer training manual.
  • Take an active role in contributing to your local campus.
  • Be willing to perform job-related tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Passion for working with children and their spiritual development.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience in volunteer management preferred.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and volunteers.
  • Organizational skills to manage schedules, resources, and classroom settings.
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children.
  • Experience in using or willing to learn church management software (i.e. Planning Center).

We are excited to hear from you!
