Lower School Creative Arts​/Music Teacher

The Harley School seeks a full-time early childhood music teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The primary responsibility of the position is teaching music and movement to Nursery (3 and 4-year-olds) and Kindergarten students. The Lower School music teacher will have a strong pedagogical approach to teaching music and creative expression, and will work closely with classroom teachers, other specialists, the music department, the department chair, and the Lower School division head.

• Teach N-K Grade music classes
• Assist with weekly Lower School Assemblies
• Contribute to the musical life of the school
• Support the Lower School (bus duty, faculty meetings, open houses)
• Provide written student-progress reports to the school and families at regular intervals
• Collaborate on the creation and production of the annual Lower School Pageant
• Be involved in the school community at large

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education (or related field); graduate degree preferred
• Knowledge of and experience with one or more pedagogical approaches to early childhood music and creative expression (e.g., Dalcroze, Kodály, MLT, Orff, etc.)
• Experience teaching 3-5 year olds
• Piano proficiency
• Commitment to process over product, play-based learning
• Respect and appreciation for the idea that all children are musical
• Culturally responsive approach to music education and classroom repertoire
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• 3+ years of teaching experience
• Enthusiastic about collaborative learning; creative and innovative when working with diverse learners and faculty

• $47,000 - $70,000, based on experience
