$63,815.00 - $95,723.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Director of Education, the Sr. Education Program Specialist is responsible for the management, daily operations, and resource support for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine education initiatives in Histopathology, including the Advanced Certificate Program in Histotechnology. This position aligns with the educational, regulatory and strategic goals of the department. Scope of responsibility includes licensed professional and unlicensed professional staff and students.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing curriculum, scheduling student learning experiences, student onboarding, didactic lectures, clinical training, assurance that university, national accreditation and state regulations are met. Manages daily operations in the Histotechnology Advanced Certificate Program and affiliated allied health professional training programs. Assists the Director of Education with development of strategic plans in education for the department.

Functions

Strategic and Administrative Leadership:

  • Models leadership skills of professionalism, positive attitude, team building, good judgment, and respect. Provides leadership and initiative in improving strategic performance with effective decision making, planning and implementation skills. Encourages open expression of ideas and suggestions.
  • Under direction of the Director of Education, in collaboration with faculty and division senior management, develops long and short-term goals and objectives that are in alignment with both Medical Center and SMD goals. These goals include maintenance and growth of our educational programs. Actively works with University Academic Affairs, SMD and state/regulatory agency partners to influence and advance opportunities in anatomic and surgical pathology allied health programs.

    Stays current with laboratory regulatory requirements in the laboratory and university setting. Ensures that Graduate Medical Education programs comply with these regulations.

Program Assessment:

  • Continually assesses effectiveness of programs and recommends/designs/implements improvements. Identifies needs and creates content for new educational programs/initiatives. Manages approved programs as directed and oversees development of curricula.

Histotechnology Program Recruitment and Admissions: reviews applicants for the program; over sees recruitment initiatives and interviews; works with interview committee to select and admit candidates for the coming year.

Histotechnology Program Management:

  • Scheduling: develops bootcamp, clinical rotation and lecture schedules in collaboration with program education coordinators and faculty.
  • Curriculum Design: designs curriculum that meets NAACLS and NYSED standards and regulations.
  • Advising: manager of student body. Advises students on: career goals, academics; and professional performance.
  • Grading/Student Assessments: manages grading policies and academic reports in the Learning Management System.
