Assistant Director, Research

The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Institutional Research and assists the Director in designing and implementing quantitative and qualitative research studies in support of educational and institutional decision-making. The Assistant Director also provides analysis and evaluation of data to support strategic planning, assessment, evaluation of policies and procedures, resource development, marketing, curriculum planning, institutional accountability, and reports for external agencies.

• Assists the Director of Institutional Research in analyzing and interpreting data and presenting information pertaining to the programs and operations of Monroe Community College
• Determines appropriate approaches to data collection, research methodology, and statistical techniques.
• Works in compliance with accrediting agency regulations and requirements related to academic assessment.
• Manages multiple projects at different stages, while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

• Develops and makes available to decision makers longitudinal data on changing student characteristics, student profiles, and market penetration of various population subgroups.
• Assists departments in setting departmental goals and create KPI's in order to track progress towards the goals.
• Develops program and department descriptive data specific to the College.
• Assists the Director in analyzing and interpreting community educational need surveys, constituent opinion surveys, and comparative studies across institutions relative to quality, efficiency, and mix of program and service offerings, and institutional effectiveness
• Develops studies and reports pertaining to grade analysis; attrition/retention; program cost; student/faculty ratios; opinions of students, alumni, employees, and employers; graduation, transfer, and job placement rates; and other College performance indicators.
• Assists in the supervision of professional and support staff members and assumes leadership of the Research Office in the absence of the Director.
• Represents the College in appropriate professional organizations and maintains a program of scholarship and professional development.
• Recommends, initiates, and implements improvements to Institutional Research operations and processes.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
• Serves and represents the Research Office and its practices on relevant College committees as directed.
• Exercises discretion and good judgment at all times and in all contexts and maintains client confidentiality.
• Performs other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Institutional Research.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college/university in statistics, applied math, educational research, psychology, sociology, or a related analytical field of study
• Have at least three years of experience with increasing responsibility in the areas of institutional research, educational research, or market research
• Experience with performing departmental assessments
• Ability to plan and produce applied research studies in a higher education setting
• Knowledge of experimental and statistical techniques
• Strong ability to use SPSS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Web Focus, and SQL
• Working knowledge of an enterprise database system (e.g., Banner)
• Demonstrate working knowledge of college administrative practices, trends in the higher education industry, and community college philosophy and mission

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree preferred from an accredited college/university in statistics, applied math, educational research, psychology, sociology, or a related analytical field of study
