This is a part-time (0.40 FTE) position.

SpecificDuties and Responsibilities:
- Make short and long-range plans for each subject area of instruction in an alternative school environment
- Provide for individual differences in the learning needs of students
- Provide a classroom climate that is based on mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency
- Monitor student performance and be adaptable to current curriculum needs
- Give students prompt and meaningful feedback on their performance
- Interact positively with students, colleagues, parents and community members
- Direct student teachers, educational assistants, student tutors and parent volunteers when such personnel are utilized
- Handle student discipline and attendance problems and assist with the enforcement of all school rules
- Advisor to students relating to scholastic pursuits, progress and interests.
- Assist students in dealing with barriers to learning.
- Work collaboratively with co-workers , as part of a professional learning community
- Maintain appropriate records for student assignments and progress. Relay information to parents and school administration to comply with state statutes.
- Perform job-related, non-teaching duties
- Liaison to community agencies
- Participate in staff development activities
- Participate in school improvement and parent involvement activities
- Perform other such duties as assigned by the building administrator
- Washington State Teacher Certification with appropriate endorsement.
- Preference may be given to those with multiple endorsement areas.
- Knowledge of subject matter in classroom instruction.
- Ability to handle complex behavioral, social and academic needs.
- Candidates should be able to teach a variety of courses in an alternative learning setting.
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
- This position is not eligible for medical, dental, vision as administered by the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
- Employees are eligible to enroll in the Department of Retirements Systems TERS plan, as well as the Deferred Compensation Program.
- Employees receive paid leave annually.
